On Wednesday, March 14, I was admitted to Brookwood to begin the process of welcoming Amelia Joy. Based on the results of my appointment on Tuesday, Dr. Kennedy was uncomfortable waiting any longer to deliver AJ. So my mother came up Wednesday morning to help get the house clean and spotless before her homecoming. Andrew worked into Wednesday, so he slept his last few non-daddy hours away until it was time to get up and ready to go. We were excited about being so close to meeting our little girl!
Things didn't go quite as planned Wednesday night, so weren't too optimistic about how labor would proceed on Thursday. Sure enough, after 11 hours of medicine on Thursday, Dr. Kennedy said it was time to have to a baby due to "failure to progress." The c-section process went so quickly that I never really had time to get nervous. Andrew was so sleep deprived after working on Wednesday and not getting any sleep into and on Thursday that he was pretty zoned out too. Add in the massive amounts of medicine they pumped into my epidural, and it all was smooth sailing from there. I never felt a single thing during the procedure. No pain, no pressure. And then came the magical moment...that very first cry as they pulled her out. I immediately teared up, and when I looked over at Andrew as they quickly held her over the curtain for us to see, he was crying too. It sure was a moment I will never ever forget.
They whisked her and Daddy away to measure, weigh, and give her all those newborn shots and medicines. The very first thing she held was Daddy's finger. Andrew got to carry her back to the L&D room, while they finished up with me. Once I was back in L&D, we had some special family time together just cooing over our little one before she got to meet her extended family for a few minutes. Finally, our sweet baby girl was here! She weighed 7 pounds even, was 20 inches long, and came out with a head full of dark hair.

We had many wonderful visitors while in the hospital. Everyone was so sweet to stop by and bring well wishes for little Amelia. However, after spending almost four days there, it was time for our new little family of three to go home. We were so excited to take our little snuggle bug to her house, and Andrew was excited to finally have a comfortable bed to sleep in. We dressed baby girl in her going home outfit, and off we went!
My pretty pink dress.

The Weems family is ready to go!
I really enjoyed the car ride and was sound asleep when we got home. See all my dark hair!

I have since learned that I really, really enjoy my swing.
However, I am not a fan of my bouncer.
When Amelia was 5 days old, her friend Lucy came over to meet her. Their first official play date consisted of swinging and bouncing. Not the most exciting date, but everyone really enjoyed it. In fact, Lucy enjoyed the bouncer so much, that Amelia let her take it home with her when she brought us dinner the next day.
Baby play date!
Chilling in our matching outfits. Silly mommies!
We even had some WubbaNub time together!
Dearest Amelia,
Mom and Dad cannot believe that such a sweet, beautiful little girl is ours! You are just so precious. We think you are a perfect blend of the both of us. You did get Daddy's long eyelashes, and we are have our fingers crossed that you are going to get Momma's eyes. Has it really been one week since you were born? That was such a special day for us, one that we will never forget. That first cry of yours went right to both of our hearts. You have been such a good girl since you came home. The first two nights were rough, but it was a learning experience for everyone. However, you've gone 3+ hours the past two nights between feedings, and Mom and Dad have gotten some much needed sleep. You love your WubbaNub and your swing, but you do not like having your clothes changed or sleeping in a big, flat cradle. You have brought so much love and light into our lives, and we will never be the same. You truly are our little miracle angel!
Look at me! I'm zero months, but I'm one week old today!

PRECIOUS PRECIOUS PRECIOUS!!!!!!! Need I say more?!

Truly a miracle when you think about how everything happens perfectly to create such precious gifts from God. I am so glad Amelia is finally here safe and sound and is healthy. I am glad we can add "being a mom" to the things we will go through together. Loves, :)
