Miscellaneously

Two Fridays ago, my mother, Baby AJ, and I made a trip home to Montgomery so Amelia could meet her extended family.  Our first stop of the day was in Montgomery to meet her Great Nanny Bird.  Nanny is my mother's mother, and we always called her Nanny Bird when we were little.  The story, as best I can remember it, is that my cousin Matthew came up with the name.  AJ slept for most of this visit.  Car rides, especially those on the interstate, have that magical effect on her.  Amelia also got to meet her Great Aunt Lucie, but Nanny, who had a doctor's appointment that morning, was so afraid that she was going to be late, that we didn't get to have a photo shoot of that meeting.

Nanny's newest little great granbird.

The next stop on the list was to meet her Great Grandma.  Grandma is my dad's mother.  AJ was awake for this visit but is playing possum for these pictures.

Amelia also snuck in some Grandmother and Pap time while we were there.  My mom has been calling herself "Grandmother," because she says Amelia will pick a name for her when she is ready.  However, it sure is a mouthful in the meantime and reminds me of an old Victorian lady in her Sunday best who is preparing for afternoon tea.  May I please have another sugar lump in my teacup Grandmother?  Grandmother, do you believe I need another petticoat under my hoop skirt for the ball tonight?  My dad's initials are actually PAP, so, naturally, Pap was the appropriate choice.

AJ and Pap time.

Grandmother's new favorite person to buy things for.  Not that I'm complaining!

Unfortunately, this past week, little Amelia got to meet one of her cousins for the first time under very sad circumstances.  Last Monday, Andrew's first cousin, Shannon, passed away from complications related to a seizure disorder.  Shannon was only 35 years old and left behind a beautiful little redheaded four-year old, Madison.  Madi was a flower girl in our wedding and has a personality as bright as her hair.  Madi was so excited to get to hold Amelia and keep stopping everyone to say, "Look, I have a baby!"  She wanted to know all about Amelia: how she was born, what she ate, why she couldn't eat candy, why she couldn't talk, if she could count, why her hands were so small, why her feet were so small, why she liked her paci so much, why there was a stuffed animal attached to her paci, how she came out of my tummy, if she really liked milk, when she would be big, what her favorite colors were, etc.  Every time AJ spit her paci out, Madi would jump and say, "Oh!"  It was so very cute.  According to Madi's grandmother, every time Madi talked about Amelia later that night she called her "Camellia."

Madison's blue eyes are just as sparkly as her red hair.

Amelia also got to spend some time with cousins Brodie and Ellie.  We didn't get a picture of Brodie and Amelia, but Ellie was happy to pose so prettily for the camera.  You can't see it, but E has a cast on right arm under the blanket.  Brodie accidentally shut her finger in the door, and it broke her finger.  Ellie was obviously very upset, but poor Brodie was just beside himself.  Brodie's dad, Shane, told the funniest story about the event.  When they got to the doctor, Shane noticed that Brodie's pants were on backwards.  When he pointed it out, Brodie said, "Dad.  This is very stressful.  I'm just trying to do the best I can do."  Sweet big brother was so worried about his little sister.

The big news of the week is that Amelia has started to smile regularly.  She won't do it consistently yet, but I can usually get a smile out of her when she wakes up and if I make some ridiculously silly faces.  I was even able to catch one on camera...

Stay tuned for more updates from the Weems household!  Amelia goes to the doctor on Friday for her two month visit.  Can it be that my sweet baby is almost two months old?  Where oh where does time go?  I'm excited to see how much she has grown but am already dreading those mean ole' shots for her.  It is so true when they say that to have a child is to forever have your heart go walking around (or wiggling at this point in time) outside your body.
